Scorpion traps are going to be a necessary pest control tool, due to the nuisance of any spider, and in the case of a scorpion, its potential threat as a highly poisonous insect, especially in the southwestern United States, where the common type of scorpion in the area is one of the most poisonous types. One simple and relatively inexpensive type of scorpion trap is a scorpion “glue” trap. This type of scorpion trap is made from pieces of cardboard that are covered in glue. With these cardboard pieces are some small pills that are placed on the cardboard, where the sticky part is, and left to attract small bugs and insects, especially, roaches and scorpions. The roaches serve as additional bait as scorpions love them, so it won’t hurt a thing to capture some roaches on the traps at the same time you are trying to eliminate scorpions. Other pests that will come to this bait are ants, crickets and other spiders, or, even lizards. These traps are available for purchase and are sold in packages that include fifteen traps and fifty tablets of bait substance. This type of trap can be used as is, or divided into forty-five traps.
A scorpion trap, or scorpion bait should be place at rather close intervals in the location at which you wish to eradicate the scorpions. When you first set up the baits you will have a flat strip that should be bended at the folds before removing the waxed paper that is over the sticky part. Once you prefold the strips and remove the paper protection you will need to place the baited pellets on the glued part and then hook the sides together at the top to form a tunnel like trap for the bugs. They need to be placed about five feet apart in any room that gets a lot of use. You should check the traps and make a note of where the most scorpions are located. You should replace scorpion glue traps every three months or when they are full. If you think the glue is too dried up by just two months, go ahead and replace, or supplement the traps with some fresh ones. The bait substance will still attract the pests for three full months. So, leaving the traps in place and adding a fresh one nearby may bring in quite a harvest of the bugs.
Scorpion traps should be placed near doors, entrances, garage doors, under heavy furniture, under and behind regular furniture, in closets and under dark boards or garbage receptacles. Scorpions will lay in wait in folded clothing, shoes saved for dress-up, garbage, tree bark or under rocks if you are outdoors. Places outdoors near your home good for scorpion traps would be under overhangs and behind garbage pails where the rain doesn’t reach, if there are places like that. It is best to rid your property of the scorpions, some people are highly allergic to even the less poisonous ones.
